$1 (also written as One Dollar) is a ROM hack created by kittrz for the Mario Jams One Competition, in which it placed 10th.
Mario needs $1 to get chips from a vending machine, but he has no money! And so he decides to steal a dollar from King Bob-omb.
Gameplay[]
Gameplay Changes[]
The Bob-omb enemies have been modified to have greater sensitivity to Mario's presence, a slight increase to their chasing speed, and the ability to explode instantly upon touching Mario, rather than only when the timer runs out.
Coins now have a much longer distance at which they can render, and all elements of the HUD, except the camera settings, are disabled by default, with the HP icon appearing only after sustaining damage (as per vanilla SM64's HP). The pause menu has been modified; the option to exit course has been replaced with the option to toggle the music off and on.
King Bob-omb now only has 1HP, rather than 3HP. After collecting his $1, the player will watch a cutscene showing the climax of the story, then the credits will roll.
Overview[]
This hack contains two secret courses called Bob-omb Path, and King Bob-ombs House.
Upon starting the game, the player will watch a cutscene in which Mario attempts to buy some "highly processed" snacks from a vending machine, but is unable to do so, due to his financial shortcomings. The player is then dropped into the first level, Bob-omb Path. By traversing to the top, the player can find a house, inside of which is this hack's second and final level, King Bob-ombs House.
