A Tall Atoll is a ROM hack created by IwerSonsch with the aim of showing off the capabilities of the 832 Star patch created by ShiN3. In addition to this, a signpost in-game credits Frame for the 8 Star patch, and aglab2 for the blue coin Stars.
This hack has a single course, called A Tall Atoll, in which 32 Stars are readily available. Each Star can be found on a coloured square of either red, blue, green or yellow. The primary gimmick is that each time Mario steps onto a new coloured square, all objects aligned with that colour, including Stars occupying a colour of the same square, become visible, and the rest disappear. As well as Stars, this includes coins and blue coin switches.
Gameplay[]
Collecting a Star in this hack does not warp Mario to another location, but does offer the option of saving.
There are no 100 coin Stars available in this hack. Each time Mario collects a Star of a different colour to the last (and sometimes simply just switching to viewing another colour), the coins on the map all respawn. Blue coin switches will always respawn after each failed attempt to retrieve all of the blue coins.
- Each coloured square will load all of the Stars and blue coin switches on squares of the same colour.
- The sixth Star for each area is hidden.
- The seventh Star is a blue coin challenge.
- The eighth Star requires the Vanish Cap.
- Progress can be viewed via Star Display by opening 4 windows, and setting each one to display a different File. Stars save in different save files:
- Red Stars save in File A
- Blue Stars save in File B
- Green Stars save in File C
- Yellow Stars save in File D
