B3313 Unabandoned (unofficial 1.0) is a hack built off of a previous version of B3313.

Hack based on the Internal Plexus concept, featuring scrapped features and stages from the beta and the SM64 iceberg, mixed and matched together to create uncanny experiences.

Inception[]

While the full version of B3313 was still in development, the individual heading the project, ChrisRLillo, prematurely released the hack due to amounting stress caused by fractures within the development team and his own health. This version is referred to as v0.9 (abandoned build). The frustration towards the development team was what earned it the "abandoned" label, as ChrisRLillo was ready to completely abandon B3313 altogether.

Various members of the development team got together without ChrisRLillo and produced this version of B3313, which provided a more complete experience prior to the official B3313's 1.0 release. It was intended to patch over many of the holes that existed in the 0.9 build (such as duplicate Star IDs, and unintended crashes), but at the cost of certain features, such as a custom boss fight (Captain Fly Guy's Tower) having to be replaced, and a significant portion of the "creepy" content being disabled.

The boss fight did later return with the A1 release as a second phase, and it and A2 have rounded out the amount of Stars and fixed up various gameplay issues. There still remains to be significant differences between the official B3313's 1.0 and Unabandoned's 1.0, which is reflected in the B3313 wiki.

A new update that is being referred to as A3 is currently being made for this hack. Currently, its planned release date is 2025.

Controversy[]

Given that B3313 Unabandoned was produced entirely without the permission and input from the project's original creator, this hack has received criticism for that, as well as the patchy repairs done to version 0.9. A compromise seems to have been reached in regards to who-created-what, and consequently, B3313 Unabandoned is now considered to be a completely separate project.

Chlorobyte (formerly Benedani), one of the developers of both the original B3313 and Unabandoned, has shared a document (hosted on Google Docs) discussing their perspective of the drama here. It accuses ChrisRLillo of spreading misinformation and being very rude to multiple members of the community. Currently, there is no known publicly-released response from ChrisRLillo.
