Bob-omb Temple is the first course of Mario's Nightmare 64. It can be reached through the painting with the retro image of a Bob-omb in the first overworld. This level is a grassy flatland with a large temple in the center and a hedge maze off to the side. Despite this hack offering very difficult levels near the end, this level eases the player into the basics of controlling Mario.

Levels[]

Star 1: The King of Bombs[]

When Mario enters the stage he will notice a tall, stone wall is blocking his way to the rest of the stage. Mario must get over by using any means of wallkicking; whether it be with a side somersault or triple jump. Once Mario has cleared the wall he must head around the side of the large temple until he sees two ginormous walls. Mario must utilize the Lakitu camera, which provides ideal an ideal perspective to wallkick up. At the very top Mario must avoid being grabbed by a Chuckya who can throw him all the way down. Finally, standing on the opposite side of the temple is King Bomb-omb, waiting to battle Mario. Dealing with King Bomb-omb is nearly identical to in Mario 64 except for the inclusion of firesplitters. Once King Bomb-omb is defeated yet again the star will spawn near the battle location.

Star 2: Explore the Labyrinth[]

This time when Mario scales the wall once more he must head towards the hedge. Before entering the hedge Mario must be cautious to avoid the fire-jets that are in the gateway in. The interior of the hedge is a maze Mario must traverse to find a star placed in a ! box. The ! box is located in the back right corner of the hedge maze. Alternatively, Mario can go behind the hedge and do a triple jump wallkick off of the wooden box and then lavabounce over the top of the hedge right to the star.

Star 3: Find the Golden Throne[]

For this star Mario must find a star sitting on a golden throne. Once over the wall Mario must go to the right of the Temple where there is a narrow path to walk on. Mario must then wallkick up to a ledge where he will find a sign that actually acts as a warp to another area. In this area is the golden throne where the stars sits.

Star 4: The Secret Path[]

The beginning of this star is identical to the last one in that Mario must find the sign with the warp to the throne room. However, if Mario goes to the left of the throne he will notice there is a tunnel that leads to an outdoor area. Mario will walk down the stairs to see the box with the star inside.

Star 5: Search From the Sky (Vanish Cap required) []

This star requires Mario to collect 5 marked coins in the sky with the Wing Cap. For this reason Mario will be unable to do this star until the Wing Cap Switch is pressed. Mario must wallkick back up to the top of the temple once more and then climb some steps to where he will see the Wing Cap and a Chuckya. The 5 coins in the sky are generally lined up, but Mario has to turn slightly to get the last few. Once all of the secrets are collected the star will spawn behind the hedge maze.

Star 6: Find the 8 Red Coins[]

Mario must collect all 8 red coins scattered around the hedge and temple. It is recommended to get the 100 coin star alongside with this because this level is already light on the coin count as is. The coins are located as follows:

  1. Above a tree near the beginning wall
  2. Above a tree to the right of the hedge
  3. Next to the star box in the secret tunnel under the throne room
  4. In a box on the first layer of the temple
  5. In the hedge maze
  6. Behind the hedge maze in a box
  7. Behind the tall wallkicks on the narrow edge
  8. In a hole on the top layer of the temple

Once Mario has collected all 8 red coins the star will spawn in the interior of the temple near the blue coin switch.

Enemies[]

Super Mario 64: The Nostalgia Trip[]

This level returns in SM64: The Nostalgia Trip with the following changes:

  • The names of the Stars are different.
  • Stars 5 and 6 were switched.
  • The positions of some of the Red Coins changed. Most notably, there are no longer any Red Coins in the hedge maze.
  • The level is more expansive. Most notably, there's more space at the back of the temple, and the middle layer of the temple now has steps.
  • The top layer of the temple had holes added to it, such that Big Bob-Omb is now on an "island", making his battlefield smaller and his battle harder. However, only one flame ball is now present.
  • There aren't as many Chuckyas at the top of the temple.
  • The Wall-Kicking path to the top of the temple has significantly more Coins along it (25).
  • The hedge maze was drastically altered to an enclosed stone maze, making it impossible to cheese Star 2.
  • You still get burned by a flamethrower when you warp to the throne room.
  • The way to get Star 4 changed drastically: you now go to the right of the throne, to a warp that's indicated by a Star that looks much like how the Power Stars appear in this game. The bridge that you must cross is thinner. Also, the Red Coin in this area was placed behind the ! Box that Star 4 appears in.
  • A cannon was added.
