Bowser's Castle: Disaster Strikes is a ROM hack created by TheSourOG for the Mario Jams Disaster Competition, in which it placed 16th.

This is a story-based hack with no Stars to collect, nor any beatable levels.

Gameplay[]

This hack consists of three areas, two of which occupy overworld area IDs, and the final occupying course 1. The first area takes place outside of Bowser's Castle; the second area is reached by entering the doors to Bowser's Castle, which were left slightly open.

While inside course 1, the pause menu will no longer provide the option to exit the level. Dying in any of the areas, including course 1, will deduct one life and send Mario back to that area's starting point.

Overworld Areas[]

Outside Bowser's Castle[]

There are two Toad's to talk to here; one explains that Bowser has kidnapped Peach and made off with her, while the other Toad, which is hidden behind the Castle, carries a message from the ROM hack creator. To proceed, Mario needs to enter the Castle via the front doors.

Inside Bowser's Castle[]

Upon entering this area, Mario will lose a life as though he was just booted from a course. A Toad near the starting point for this area exclaims that the door slammed shut behind Mario after he entered, and trapped everyone inside. The area ahead consists of a long corridor with broken flooring set above a pit of green... gas? Goo? Below which is a death barrier. After platforming to the end of the corridor, Mario can jump down the warp hole to the third and final area.

C1: You're Done Son[]

Act 1: Thanks For Playing My Game[]

This area is a large open cavern with a path winding around the outer edge, and a pit of murky gas/goo. There are several Blue Spiked Goomba's patrolling this area, and despite the lack of changes in their behaviour, there is no way for Mario to defeat them. As explained by a Toad further into the level, Bowser has tricked them all into entering his dungeon, where they're now trapped with the Blue Spiked Goomba's.

An invisible wall prevents Mario for proceeding further into the dungeon, despite a Toad being in view beyond it. The two Toad's standing on either side of the wooden bridge both deliver the same dialogue, and the bridge leads up to the star-shaped platform in the centre of the cavern, atop which is a large number of Blue Spiked Goomba's.
