Super Mario 64 Hacks Wiki

Cap Kingdom 64 is a ROM hack created by Luigi120s. This hack features one level, and is heavily inspired by the game Super Mario Odyssey.

Gameplay[]

Overview[]

This hack has one course called Kingdom, and the active Mission is Let's Find All The Moons!. The main area for this course recreation of a level called Cap Kingdom in the game Odyssey. It has a number of sub-areas accessed from it, all with at least one Moon to collect in it. Most of the warps are dark entryways in the sides of the cliffs, but there is also a chimney for Mario to go down. Each area and sub-area has its own blue coin switch, and a Moon will be awarded to Mario for collecting 100 coins. There is no red coin mission in this hack.

Once the player has collected all 7 Moons, they will receive a message from the hack creator telling them the credits and advising them to enter the ship near Mario's starting point in the main area, called the Odyssey. With 7 Moons, a warp in front of the Odyssey's entrance is now usable, and it will send the player to the end screen.

This hack has a number of custom features. Most notably, it uses the same set of Odyssey-inspired physics created by Kaze for Mario's Little Odyssey. This hack also has some custom objects created by themselves, including a jump-pad resembling a cartoon frog; a scarecrow that, upon being struck with Cappy, will summon red platforms nearby, and hat-shaped clouds that will summon cloud platforms nearby after being struck with Cappy. Both the cloud platforms and the red platforms only appear temporarily, and will disappear after a short time.

Controls[]

Pressing L will make Mario throw Cappy. Mario also has the ability to roll forwards at high speeds; this is done by pressing B while standing still, or by pressing Z and B while in motion (as though performing a slide-kick). Sometimes, Mario will enter a spindrift state after sideflipping, although it is difficult to tell if there is a way to reliably do this. Mario will now also slide down the side of a wall rather than bonking into it, allowing him to wallkick at more precise points.

Using Cappy, Mario is able to possess Goomba's, Bob-omb Buddies, and Koopa the Quick. Interestingly, if he dies while still possessing something, he will respawn in that possessed state. If Koopa the Quick wins the race against Mario while possessed, it actually counts as Mario's win, even if he somehow dies and respawns as Koopa the Quick during the race.

Fall damage is still in effect, as is Mario's lives counter. Dying anywhere will send Mario back to the beginning of the course's main area. After collecting a Moon, the player will not receive any dialogue nor be given the option to save, however, the game does still save progress.
