Claw Machine is a ROM hack made by Olivia for the SimpleFlips' Slide Hack Competition (2024) ft. PirateSoftware, in which it placed 3rd.

Participated in SimpleFlips' Slide Hack Competition (2024) ft. PirateSoftware v1.0.1 just adds some camera controls to the minigame + more death warp triggers&positions, so now you lose less progress if you die + fix some bad collision and an unpredictable pit

This hack begins with an opening cutscene showing Mario entering a warehouse with a claw machine contained inside a crate in it. The player is tasked with retrieving the Star from the bundle of figurine prizes available, with the option to also snag some of the other prizes too. The movement stick controls the position of the claw, and holding B makes the claw extend downwards, and releasing B will cause the claw to withdraw automatically. Prizes can be deposited in the chute at the bottom left of the machine by pressing B again while above it.

After succesfully depositing the Star in the prize chute, Mario will be warped to an area suspended in sunset-coloured starry space. To proceed, Mario needs to traverse the slide sections ahead; a series of checkpoints will be employed should he fall off or die through other means.

There are numerous angle-bouncers that help to guide Mario down the right paths, which work by reflecting him at a 90° angle. These are very effective at helping Mario turn sharp corners without adding any swaying momentum that might otherwise knock him off the slide. Other custom mechanics include having angelic Moto's carry Mario between segments of the slide, and some monkeys/Ukiki's that allow him to use their swings to progress further. Some sections of the slide have obstacles that can do up to three points of damage to Mario, which will cause the HUD's health meter to appear in the top left corner of the screen.

After reaching the end and grabbing the Star, Mario is carried upwards by it into what resembles a black hole, and is warped back to the warehouse. He is seen tossing the Star triumphantly (using the same animation as obtaining a Bowser Key in vanilla Super Mario 64). The ending displays the hack creator's notes, and the prizes the player won. This will include any of the figurines the player won in the claw machine, followed by the Star obtained at the end of the slide.
