Cursed Placeholders is a hack made by BlackJoystick for use in the creation of YouTube videos.
- See also: Cursed Placeholders/Gallery
This hack was largely inspired by the beta copies of Super Mario 64 that have existed, and the many urban legends surroundng them. Cursed Placeholders and the YouTube videos it was made for would later go on to inspire a large amount of content in B3313 (see trivia).
The alternate areas that have been added can be accessed from the main lobby of Peach's Castle via several altered warps. The Star-minimums for doors leading to courses one, two, three , four, and Peach's Secret Slide have all been changed down to zero, thereby allowing them to be accessed without any Stars.

Vanilla Stars Available[]
- Secret Aquarium's Secret Star (x1)
- Cool Cool Mountain's Frosty Slide for 8 Red Coins, Lil' Penguin Lost, and Wallkicks Will Work. (x3)
- Due to an invisible wall, the slide is not accessible. This means that the first Star cannot be obtained, nor the Big Penguin Race, Snowman's Lost His Head, or the 100 coin Star.
All Stars past Bowser in the Dark World (replaced by Bowser in the Randomized Realm) are obtainable.
Bob-omb Village[]
Current Population: 95 and Exploding.
Bob-omb Village is similar in style to Bob-omb Battlefield in vanilla SM64. Only Act 1 has had its name changed; the other Acts all appear to have the same name as in vanilla SM64. Act 1's Star and the coin Star are the only two Stars in this course that can be obtained. Hypothetically, the red coin Star could also be obtained by using cheats to reach the final red coin on top is the floating island.
Ever since that no good Prince Bob-Omb came around, the fountain was drained completely! how am I supposed to steal the coins people throw in to make wishes if there's no fountain to make wishes in the first place?!
I've heard there is a Power Star inside of this cave, the only problem is that this is the Chain Chomp's cave. Anyone that has come in has never, NEVER came out. I'd rather not risk blowing up in there, Chain Chomps are extremely dangerous creatures you know...
Act 1: The Child Of King Bob-Omb[]
Outside of the highest building, a Bob-omb Buddy stands by the entrance:
This is out legendary Bomb Shrine, we have our only Power Source here which is a Power Star, but we've been in kind of a struggle since that small Prince Bob-Omb came in and took It, and now he's Big! I wish we didnt have to rely on that single Star to live our happy lives... Electricity? What is that? Some sort of magical spell or something?
Inside of the Bomb Shrine is a long dark room that despite its eerie appearance has very jaunty music playing. The "pit" below is not actually a pit- it's just a very deep floor, although once down there, there is no way to climb back up. Prince Bob-Omb is standing at the alter at the end of the room in front of the empty glass display cabinet.
Aha! Are you here to reclaim that village's precious power Star? That's just fine, then! But you're going to have to go through I, Prince Bob-Omb, son of King Bob-Omb! ... No, this is not a paper crown! It's legitimate! ... What? No! My stache is not fake either! It is legitimate too!
This fight is identical to vanilla Super Mario 64's battle against King Bob-omb.
Whaaa....Whaaat? Can it be a pipsqueak like you has defeated the Bob-omb prince???? It's not fair! You might be fast enough to ground me, but you'll have to pick up the pace if you want to King Bowser by the tail. What? you've already done it twice? How come i havent heard about this yet?! Oh man..... Dad's gonna be so dissapointed on me when he finds out about this... If you want to see me again select this Star from the menu.
The Star will spawn above the glass display cabinet.
Red Coin Star (Unobtainable)[]
All of the red coins are collectable- except for one. Above the course is a floating island, upon which the final red coin can be seen. To reach the island would require the use of a cannon, but unfortunately the "cannons" in this course do not seem to have been added in. While there are a couple square Mario-sized holes that one would normally expect to be a cannon entrance, they are empty.
Coin Star[]
A 100 coin Star can be obtained here with relative ease.
Skyhigh Pipelands[]
Act 1: The Great Pipe Of The Sky[]
From the beginning, head up the left path and ascend the course. Eventually, Mario will reach the largest pipe in the course- a very tall and wide green pipe with a bridge running across the pit at the top. There are three Chuckya's up here and a few trios of Goomba's scattered, and a Star in the middle of the bridge.
Act 2: House Of The Pipe Maze (Unobtainable)[]
Presumably, this Star would have involved following the right path from Mario's Starting point and entering into the warp pipe embedded in the side of the house at its end. Unfortunately, jumping into this pipe will cause the game to crash.
Coin Star[]
There are exactly 100 coins throughout this entire course, and apparently no blue coin switch. Good luck, and don't miss a single coin!
Bowser in the Randomized Realm[]
Bwa ha ha ha! Welcome to my little world Mario!, i've used the power of the Stars to create one of my most devilish traps yet tailored specifically for you. Good Luck, you're gonna need it! -Bowser
This level is a patchwork of models from vanilla Super Mario 64, its unused content, and its beta version. This includes:
- The giant Mario head from the title screen for the game.
- The Boo key that didn't appear in the final game.
- Some... unfortunate-looking Whomp's.
- Title characters used in the beta version.
- The tower from Whomp's Fortress, but scaled down.
- Some components from Inside the Pyramid in Shifting Sand Lands.
- The structure with the Star called Shoot Into The Wild Blue in Whomp's Fortress.
- A distorted version of the pyramid from Shifting Sand Lands.
- Some components from the Castle's interior.
Progressing further into this course (supposedly) requires the use of the Wing Cap, which cannot be unlocked until Mario has obtained 10 Stars and can access Tower of the Wing Cap. However, using a Fly Guy's spin-drift bounce, it is possible to drift all the way over to the latter area for this course, but only by continually holding A ( A
) and keeping the joystick aimed towards it the entire time.
What the... MARIO?! how did you get here?! I thought that the personalized trap i designed for you would take you down! Wait a minute... Hey you! Yeah! the guy playing that's this! Why did you decide to make this stage a walk in the park for him?! Oh well, lets get this done with!.
This fight is nearly identical to the first Bowser fight, but with the addition of some lava areas that could be mistaken for a weird moving carpet.
Grrr! Defeated again! I cant believe that my trap didnt work, i put so much effort in makin' it you know. So curse you Player! you just ruined one of the best ideas i could ever think of in a while. But dont think this is over yet, we'll meet again soon.
After defeating Bowser, Mario can collect the key that unlocks the Basement of the Castle. This means that the rest of the Stars past this point in the game are collectable, and now so are the Cap Switches.
Known Issues[]
- Entering the double doors behind Mario's Starting point in Floor 2B will cause a crash.
- Entering the double doors behind Mario's Starting point in Floor 4 will cause a crash.
- After leaving the interior section of Floor 2B via the double courtyard doors, attempting to backtrack through these doors will cause a crash.
- Jumping into the warp pipe embedded in the house in Skyhigh Pipelands will cause a crash.
