katze789 is a German member of the SM64 ROM hacking community who has demonstrated exceptional skill, and as of August 2024, currently holds 1st place on both the RHDC general leaderboard and kaizo leaderboard.
According to their own RHDC bio, katze789 has been playing SM64 ROM hacks since 2012, and begun streaming their playthroughs in 2016.
As part of their kaizo hack playthroughs, katze789 also keeps a spreadsheet documenting all of the kaizo ROM hacks they've played, along with a myriad of other information about each listing. These include katze's rating of each hack's difficulty, their total time spent practicing each one and a separate measure for time spent running it*, the date it was played, a rating for how enjoyable they found each one, and a link to their YouTube video showing their own playthrough.
In addition to their achievements in playing ROM hacks, katze789 has also co-authored a kaizo hack with two other creators; SM64 - Twisted Adventures: Intense Challenge 2 was created in collaboration with Tomatobird8 and SomeRussianMarioDude. The project, however, never reached completion due to being cancelled, but three versions have been released, containing 22 Stars.
*This term (running a game, doing a run, etc) refers to making a serious attempt at completing a game or part of a game in one sitting, usually to achieve some kind of record. On RHDC, players are required to show proof of their own playthroughs to be able to claim any amount of completion of a ROM hack in the kaizo category. In order for a run to be considered valid and for the kaizo points to be awarded, the level must be played through without any form of TAS, slowmotion, savestates, or other external function being used. Similar rules are in place in many forums dedicated to speedruns of videogames, and, amongst many other reasons, are implemented with the purpose of staying as true to the original game's limitations and gameplay as possible, and to maintain a distinction between what's feasible for a human being to achieve, and what remains theoretical and/or TAS-only.
