Super Mario 64 Hacks Wiki
Super Mario 64 Hacks Wiki

lofi hip hop radio - beats to relax/study to is a ROM hack made by MooIQ for the Music Themed Level Competition, in which it placed 26th.

1 level, 7 Stars. Submitted for SimpleFlips Music Competition.

This hack takes its name from a permanent livestream Started in 2022 on YouTube, that streams calming music with soft beats played over a looping animation of a girl studying. The course in this hack seems to draw inspiration from imagery associated with the vaporwave microgenre of music, which is often characterised by a limited palette of neon colours often accompanied by space themes, 90s - 2000s era technology, and cars/car journeys.

Stars[]

There are seven Stars to collect in one course, including a 100 coin Star. Collecting a Star will not warp Mario out of the level, but will still prompt the player to save.

The first Star Mario is likely to come across is at the top of the pinky-purpley tower at the centre of the course, with a path twisting around and up it. At the top is the Big Bob-omb with four spots of blue fire around him. He can be defeated the usual way, although due to the small size of the tower, if he does manage to grab Mario then he will almost certainly successfully throw Mario off of the tower.

To the right of the central twisty tower (with the boss at the top), there is a series of yellow platforms Mario can use to wallkick upwards. Once up there, he can traverse over to a section with a red tube, followed by a tall pink... thing. There is a Star at the top of this pink platform, but watch out for the edges of the pink platform, as they are deceptively slippery. The red tube can also be walked across on its top, which is not slippery.

Behind the central twisty tower is a series of ascending pink platforms. These lead up to some green platforms, which can be used to wallkick up to a tall pink tower thing, at the top of which is a Star.

Over in the cyan section of the course (left of the main area and Mario's Starting point), the path branches off into two routes. The right route requires Mario to wallkick up a waterfall's stones with some questionable collision. The easiest way to do this is to Start with a side-flip into the right wall, then deliberately stagger Mario's ascent so as to avoid the edges of the stones, which will ruin his wallkicks. At the top of the waterfall is a lovely pool of water, followed by two cyan sections with water slides on them. Before reaching the bottom of the first water slide, Mario will need to jump up so as to clear the gap. Att the bottom of the second slide is a Star, Fly Guy and a warp pad that will take Mario back up to the top of the waterfall.

Over in the cyan section of the course (left of the main area and Mario's Starting point), the path branches off into two routes. The left route leads up to a platforming area with a couple Fly Guys around it. Climb up the lowest step at the back and wall kick up to the left. From there, slide down the short slide and jump over to the opposing pillar. From here, perform a crossover with wallkicks with the two pillars that are on either side of the slope leading up to this area (these pillars have wonky walls at their base, and cannot be wallkicked up from the ground). Once high enough, crossover to the adjacent platform- if you are struggling to get enough distance, try diving towards it as well. Jump up to the floating circular platform (triple jump is easiest), then jump up to the last and highest pillar. This one has a shallow pool of water with a Star floating above it.

At the back of this course is a set of double doors. To their right are a series of platforms leading over to the purple section of this course. Here, Mario can use a series of small purpley-pinky platforms to easily ascend. Once high enough, he will need to wallkick up a short way, then use the last three pink platforms to reach the Star.

Coin Star[]

The blue coin switch is located in the central area behind the Big Bob-omb's tower. Groundpounding it will spawn four blue coins- one on each of the ascending pink platforms next to it. Including those blue coins, there is a total of 168 coins, most of which are in easy-to-collect coin formations.
