MIPS Forest Episode 1 Demo is a ROM hack created by Dorrieal as a demo for a planned hack starring MIPS as the main character. This hack includes a custom moveset for MIPS, and uses the first level as a tutorial area for the moveset.
Gameplay[]
Speed Flip[]
Press B while running, or moving with enough speed; can be done either on the ground or in the air. Replaces Mario's dive attack.
Long Spring[]
Press A to jump immediately after performing a Speed Flip- requires timing to be correct. The Long Spring will propel MIPS forwards and make a spring sound effect.
Front Flip and High Spring[]
Crouch and press A to perform a Front Flip. After landing a Front Flip, a well-timed A press will initiate a High Spring, characterised by its great height boost.
Super Spin and Red Coin Panels[]
Crouch and press B to perform a sort of spin attack. Is used to demonstrate a custom object in this hack, Red Coin Panels, which drop a red coin when all of them have been struck. Red Coin Panels can also be alone, and only require one panel to be struck to drop a red coin.
Digging[]
On certain types of terrain, ground-pound the "loose soil" to move MIPS underground. Tap A to make MIPS resurface, or move to the edge of the loose dirt terrain to make him automatically jump out. This move can be used to navigate to areas blocked off by grates or certain fences.
Swimming[]
MIPS will naturally sink in water. Tap A to swim upwards towards the surface, and to hop out of the water when at the surface.
Star[]
There is one Star to collect in this hack, and it requires all eight red coins be collected. Their locations are as follows:
- Under the grate near the sign telling MIPS to ground-pound the soil.
- Dropped from a series of Red Coin Panels requiring a Super Spin , to the right of the first coin.
- Ahead of MIPS' starting point on a small island in the pond. Requires a Long Spring to reach,
- Unlocked from a singular Red Coin Panel on a tree near the shore.
- Rest TBA
