Super Mario 64 Hacks Wiki

Mario: Escape from the Jail - Definitive Edition is a ROM hack created by aglab2; it is a remaster of the original Escape from the Jail, made by TheGael95 in 2016.

This marks the second hack Aglab contributed in remaking a game of the Ztar Attack series, as well as the third game not made by his original creator (the first being Forest Ruins: Rebooted; the second being Ztar Attack Rebooted).

Following the story, this game unfolds as a prequel to Ztar Attack under the brand "Ztar Attack 0.5". Unlike Ztar Attack Rebooted, the game uses the original level layout but key sections are condensed by quality standards -- visuals and exploration alike. Plus, newer gameplay mechanisms and custom assets are implemented.

One day, Mario wakes up in a dark room... turns out he was captured and sent to an abandoned jail for years! Now he must find a way to escape and find out who is behind it! Join Mario in this epic journey as he explores new worlds full of improvements and discover mysterious secrets that lies within the prison.

Trivia[]

  • Lost Woods is the only level that doesn't make an appearance this time than in the original version.
  • The Bully Battle used to have both Big Bully and Chill Bully in the original with dangerous arenas, except here, Big Bully is only chosen in a more condensed battle arena.
  • The 51th star in King Bob-omb's Fortress no longer exists due to being very obnoxious with 100 coins in the original hack.
  • In the pause menu, by holding B the button and unpausing, the player will be taken to the current level selected.
