Mario and the Rod of Seasons is a small ROM Hack created by CowQuack. Originally made for the SimpleFlips's Zelda ROM Hack Competition, it is inspired by the Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. It features a total of 15 Stars and 6 levels.

Plot[]

Somewhere in the fantasy world of Holodrum, Bowser has stolen the Rod of Seasons to turn Summer as the eternal season for his vacation but Mario comes to stop the threat by taking the Rod back. With the aid of Din, the Oracle of Seasons, Mario uses the Rod's power to return the Seasons back to Holodrum and ultimately save Hyrule from Bowser's grasp.

Levels[]

To complete the game, it requires collecting all 15 hidden Stars whereas it needs only 8 to access Hyrule.

Ordeals[]

On the concept of Oracle of Seasons, standing on a tree stump will alter the seasons and change anything in the area in order to complete a mission. Mario needs to retrieve the seasons by accomplishing the ordeals before reaching the main part of the game.

Ordeal Mission Reward
Ordeal of the Slide Gain speed from sliding and jump across the quicksand pit. Summer
Ordeal of the Wall Walljump up beams. Fall
Ordeal of the Mole Run and break through the pit until timed boxes disappear. Winter

Hylian Shroomlands is the main hub where Mario can progress by changing the seasons. Though the surroundings remain the same, the area itself only changes on these conditions.

The locations are as followed:

  • Swimming in the lake's body leads to Waterfall Chasm;
  • The hole in the flowerbed takes to Silent Meadow;
  • The hole next to the rock spire leads to Twisted Labyrinth;
  • Subterranean Grove is located deep in the forest;
  • The great wall marked with the Triforce leads to Hyrule.
Course Stars Notes
Hylian Shroomlands 6 Each Star will be located depending of the season: the blossoming flower in Spring, the overgrown vines on the big tree in Summer, inside the tree hollow in Fall and the frozen lake as well as the floating island in Winter. Collecting 100 coins between the four seasons grants the last Star.
Waterfall Chasm 2 Upon climbing the chasm, standing on a tree stump will switch between frozen and molten. The 3 cap switches are present in this area.
Silent Meadow 3 Red coins are scattered in this area. A secret Star is located underground, while it requires collecting 100 coins to earn the last Star.
Twisted Labyrinth 2 A map marks the red coins' and the hidden Star's location.
Subterranean Grove 2 2 red coins will be located in the treetops from a different season, while a secret Star is hidden in the Winter area (Spindrifts are only active).
Hyrule Requires 8 Stars to access in order to defeat Bowser. The path leads to the castle where the fight takes place.
