Music Dream Nightmare is a ROM hack created by Team Cornersoft for the Music Themed Level Competition, in which it placed 10th.
Mario must save the musicians from a nightmare that prevents them from being at their best!
As some in-game dialogue explains, the plot of this hack is that an entity called "The Nightmare" has invaded and taken over the Colosseum of Heart and Song, and as such, is causing musicians across the world to lose their ability to get a decent night's sleep. This is a problem as it will severely and negatively impact the musicians' performances. Mario has been enlisted to help solve this problem by defeating The Nightmare, although he is required to collect a Key Note first to gain access to the Colosseum.
This hack has two Stars to collect- referred to as Key Notes for this hack. The first is obtained by collecting all of the red coins scattered around the outside area of the Colosseum of Heart and Song, which can be done by following the path of platforming around the level. Collecting this Key Note is required to access the Colosseum itself, as the success warp for collecting the Key Note will take Mario there. The second Key Note is obtained by defeating The Nightmare.
