Super Mario 64 Hacks Wiki

Project Fire-bubble is a ROM hack created by Adventuremanfan420/Treeperson420 and Curly64.

It is a humorous attempt at replicating the prototype for SM64 as it was seen in July of 1995. However, the creators do not intend for this hack to be taken seriously.

Gameplay[]

Collecting coins will not grant Mario any HP, and collecting a Star will not refill his HP. Instead, the only way to restore health is by picking up one of the red mushrooms found in the ? boxes- these restore 4 HP each.

Mario's movement set changes depending on which version of the hack is being played. Earlier versions had very rudimentary controls, with Mario's momentum being more "clunky", and many of his jumps and moves missing, including longjumps. Later versions of this hack feature much more up-to-date controls, although they still imitate some of the beta-style flair. In later versions, Mario can sideflips but it is stunted; his momentum is different from vanilla SM64 (although still much more developed than in earlier hack versions), and he cannot triple-jump, only double-jump.

In all versions of this hack, Mario will use a custom animation when he collects a Star, which shows him turning to face the camera and holding one arm upwards making a "peace" sign with his hand. If he is underwater, his animation will be unchanged from vanilla SM64.

This hack does not have a proper save function. Any progress made on collecting Stars will be wiped whenever the game is reset.

Areas[]

By entering the Castle's front door, Mario can access the Castle lobby. Both the doors on the left and right will warp Mario back out of the front entrance in the Castle Grounds, however, the left door will send Mario to the wrong side. If he re-enters the Castle's front entrance from the wrong side of the door, he will die upon arriving in the Castle lobby. Mario will then respawn in the Fun House. Alternatively, the Fun House can be reached by entering the warp pipe behind the Castle.

The warp pipe nearest to Mario's starting point in the Fun House will send him to course 1, which closely resembles Bob-omb Battlefield. The pipe further ahead in the blue room will send him straight to a fight with Bowser. The pipe through the left passageway will send Mario to a level resembling Lethal Lava Land, and the pipe further ahead in that passage will send him to an underground area, presumably inspired by Hazy Maze Cave.

All area names used below are unofficial.
Names Stars Access Star Hints/Notes
Bob-omb Battlefield 3 Fun House - Enter the warp pipe next to Mario's starting point
  • Reach the top of the mountain
  • Enter the cave behind the Chain Chomp
  • Swim under the stone archway at the base of the mountain
Whomp's Fortress 3 Fun House - Enter the warp pipe to the right of Mario's starting point
  • Reach the top of the fortress
  • Reach the lonely mushroom on the edge of the course
  • Run along the red grate path around the edge of the fortress, which leads to a Star

There is a warp pipe under the giant mushroom in this level. Trying to enter it will crash the game.

Jolly Roger Bay 2 Fun House - follow the passageway to the left of Mario's starting point to the room past the second warp pipe (leading to Hazy Maze Cave), and enter the warp pipe in that room.
  • Swim down to the sunken sub
  • Climb up the path around the edge of the level

Unagi can be encountered in this level. If the player bothers him enough, he may crash the game.

Ghost House 2 Fun House - Enter the warp pipe in the passage past the blue room
  • Defeat the Big Boo found in the upper area that Mario needs to climb to
  • Jump into the small alcove at the edge of the maze containing a Star

A warp pipe here will take Mario to a room containing a bunch of moving Mr. I's; nothing seems to happen upon defeating them all.

Hazy Maze Cave 1 Fun House - enter the second warp pipe down the left passageway / Enter the warp pipe in the blue and white-striped area in Underground City.
  • Reach the end of the cave
Lethal Lava Land 4 Fun House - enter the first warp pipe down the left passageway.
  • Defeat the Big Bully to the left of Mario's starting point
  • Reach the other side of the course
  • Reach the island to the right of Mario's starting point (a Koopa Shell can be found in one of the ? boxes)
  • Reach the top of the tall structure
Snowman's Land 1 Fun House - follow the passageway to the left of Mario's starting point to the very end, and enter the pipe in front of the wallpaper with hills.
  • Reach the top of the mountain
Underground City 1 Enter the warp pipe in Snowman's Land
  • Fight and defeat the enemy resembling King Bob-omb on the roofs

This area has three warp pipes, including the one connecting it to Snowman's Land. The pipe in the town leads to Hazy Maze Cave, and the pipe in the blue and white-striped area leads to the sub-area in C1, which is a dead end.

Bowser 1 1 Fun House - Enter the warp pipe in the blue room ahead of Mario's starting point
  • Defeat Bowser. Collecting this Star will not increase the player's Star count.
Rainbow Heights 2 Enter the door below the Bowser painting in the Castle Lobby, then enter the warp pipe in the room
  • Reach the end of the slide on the right branching path
  • Reach the top of the course
Sky Course 1 Enter the warp pipe in Whomp's Fortress
  • Reach the end of the course

This area can only be accessed from earlier versions of this hack, as later versions crash before Mario can be warped there.
