Super Mario 64 Hacks Wiki

Project Power '95 is a ROM hack created by Shadow Mario. It is intended to be a recreation of the levels Whomp's Fortress and Lethal Lava Land ,as they would have been in the 1995 beta edition of SM64.

Explore a recreation of Whomp's Fortress and Lethal Lava Land as they would have been in the 1995 SM64 beta!

Gameplay[]

This hack has implemented some of the SM64 beta features. These include replacing textures, sound effects, dialogue, and parts of Mario's moveset and camera controls. Mario's moveset no longer includes the longjump, and his sideflip is now much lower than before. His triple-jump will no longer end in a somersault, but will instead end in a spindrift jump. Mario's momentum is now more rigid- he does not slide around on surfaces other than slopes. Lastly, similar to in B3313, Mario will now fall asleep after only one cycle of turning his head in both directions.

Camera controls aren't too different from vanilla SM64. The primary difference is that there are no longer two modes to switch between (Lakitu and Mario). Instead, pressing the R button will toggle the minimap. The camera in use is similar to Lakitu cam, but it seems to be less prone to swinging around on its own.

Navigation[]

All of the doors in Peach's Castle are unlocked. The only barrier still in effect is the curse of the Endless Stairs. However, if Mario tries to enter a course other than Whomp's Fortress, Lethal Lava Land, or Bowser in the Dark World, the Level Locked screen will block the player's entry, and force them to reset the game.

After collecting a Star, the player will not be given the option to save. Even though the player's Star count on the HUD keeps track of how many Stars have been collected, the previously collected Stars will still appear golden.

Stars[]

Whomp's Fortress has two Stars to collect; one at the top of the tower, and another on a floating island. The cannon is already open, and does not need a Bob-omb Buddy to open it for Mario; a few seconds after shooting out of the cannon, Mario will briefly dive down, then enter the same flight state as Wing Mario.

Lethal Lava Land has two Stars to collect. One is at the opposite end of the course to Mario's starting point; another requires him to defeat the three Bullies on the platform at the back-right corner of the course. Ordinarily, this would spawn a Big Bully for Mario to fight, who would then concede the Star, but in this hack, only the three Bullies require defeating. There is no warp point inside of the volcano, and there are no Big Bullies present anywhere in this level.

The last Star available comes from Bowser in the Dark World. Upon entering this level, Mario is dropped straight into the fight with Bowser, who has no dialogue. Upon defeating him, he dissolves into coins and drops a Star, still without dialogue.
