Super Mario 64 Shining Stars is a hack made by pieordie1 (recently known as sm64pie). It was released on August 16, 2014 and has 151 Stars, being the fourth Super Mario 64 hack to have over 150 Power Stars. This hack has been released three times, as versions 1, 2.0, and Final. In addition to that, a DS version of this hack is in the works.
On May 30, 2020, the creator released an remastered version called SM64 Shining Stars Repainted with many improvements and fixes over the original hack.
The hack features many new levels and many easy Stars, resulting in rather low overall difficulty. Many Stars involve platforming, lava, and/or riding shells. The hack also features textures and music from other games. This hack was also one of the first hacks to make use of Kaze Emanuar's "More Object Patch", which adds additional objects, such as shrinking platforms and note blocks.
Plot[]
A sign in the first overworld area divulges the plot. With the help of Rosalina, Princess Peach rebuilt New Shine City, and they dedicated it to the Grand Shining Star. However, Bowser came in and opened the portals to the Shining Stars, which have the odd tendency to attract nearby lava, and he plans to use them to flood the kingdom with lava. Now, Mario must collect the Shining Stars to revive the Grand Shining Star and defeat Bowser.
