This hack takes place some time after the events of the original Super Mario 64, as referenced by Bowser in the first battle against him. Since then, Mario has seemingly had a change of heart, and is hunting down the Darker Stars. Upon coming face-to-face with Bowser at the end of Bowser in the Dark World, Mario expresses his desire to join Bowser's side. Surprisingly, Bowser is not on board with this idea, apparently as it would leave him without a decent rival to square off against. He insists that Mario must fully defeat him before he will be allowed to join Bowser's side.
Coin Stars now only require 80 coins instead of the usual 100 coins. All coins have had their textures changed to black, making them visually indistinguishable from one another.
