SM64 Double Down is a ROM hack created by Kapoofca for the SimpleFlips' Slide Hack Competition (2024) ft. PirateSoftware. This hack consists of an overworld and a singular slide level.
In the overworld, which is a casino run by two Goomba brothers, Mario can talk to the first of the brothers downstairs. Mario explains (non-verbally) that he's found himself in a significant amount of debt ($1k), and rather than be a sensible adult about his finances, is looking to gamble his way out of it. The Goomba brother tells him about a high profile game with high stakes at the casino, and suggests he heads upstairs.
The slide level is constructed out of elements inspired by casinos, including playing cards, a roulette table, casino chips, and a slot machine at the end of the course with a jackpot combination on it.
Time equals money in this course. Mario is already $1000 in debt, and after 2 minutes, the Goombros. will cut him off- equivalent to $10,000 in debt accumulated. Coins collected on the slide are worth $300, equivalent to 4 seconds of extra time. There are 20 in total on the slide, which adds up to 1 minute 20 seconds of extra time. Falling off of the course (with the exception of the first time) will cost $1000, equivalent to 12.5 seconds, and send Mario back to the beginning of the course. Pressing L will soft reset the level and debt counter.
If Mario's debt reaches -10,000, he will be warped away to a Cold Back Alley, in which he is in a dumpster. A Bob-omb Buddy can be spoken to, who will explain that "the house always wins", but that Mario alone can beat the system that left the Bob-omb Buddy out on the streets. It explains that Mario can walk into the darkness and find himself back in the casino back in time, giving him infinite chances to overcome his debt. It explains that if Mario ends up in the Cold Back Alley again, it won't remember him, but it'd be nice to talk regardless.

- Attempting to switch to Mario cam at any point in this hack that isn't the overworld will put a banner at the bottom of the screen stating that Lakitu cam is recommended, although does not prevent Mario cam being used.
