Super Mario 64 Hacks Wiki
Super Mario 64 Hacks Wiki

SM64 Onward is a ROM hack created by Snowy (AKA Britta) It was initially set to have 165 Stars in the full version, which was set to release in 2021, but it currently (19/04/24) only contains 15.

In its current demo form, this hack uses the same overworld as vanilla Super Mario 64, and simply replaces courses 1 and 2. In the Castle Grounds, the player can mess around with samples of the custom objects used in this hack, such as flipswitches and more moving platforms (these objects are not exclusive to this hack). A Star can be collected by pressing all of the '?' switches to yellow. Also of note is a bizarre modelling error (?) in front of the Castle's entrance- an invisible wall seems to have formed along the edge of the false shadow on the ground. This can be avoided by walking around to the left to reach the doors.

Gameplay Changes[]

Some changes have been made to make it a faster-paced game than vanilla SM64:

  • Collecting a Star will no longer warp Mario out of an area.
  • Red coin Stars now only require collecting 5 red coins.
  • 100 coin Stars now only require collecting 80 coins.
  • The Act Select screen is no longer a thing. Star hints can be gathered by talking to a Toad in each level.
  • Some minor alterations have been made to Mario's movement physics.

Areas[]

Currently only the first two courses can be played. The others have had their in-game names changed, but are still the same levels as vanilla SM64, albeit with the aforementioned gameplay changes.
