SM64 Pirate's Grotto is a ROM hack created by SirRouven and included in SirRouven1003's Hack Pack. Currently, this hack is only available in German.
This hack contains one level called Pirate's Grotto. The HUD is disabled in this hack.
C1 Pirate's Grotto[]
Tips from the hack creator (given on a sign in this course):
- Do not try to get the 100 coin Star on the first Act.
- There may be a few invisible walls here and there.
- The first Star is above the ship. Don't try to get another Star first; the remaining Stars only spawn on mission 2 and onwards.
- Some areas might be more difficult than others; use savestates.
The Bob-omb Buddy that unlocks the cannon is located on the lower island with the two Boo's on it. This is also where the blue coin switch is located.
Act 1: Versenke Das Schiff[]
For this Star, it will be necessary to perform a lot of triple-jumps. Follow the wooden platforms through the gap in the cliffs behind the signpost, near Mario's starting point. Jump up to the ascending wooden platforms on the left and keep following those platforms along until you can jump down to the ship. Board it and triple jump to the next wooden platform, and keep following those around.
Eventually, Mario will reach a tunnel in one of the cliff faces. Head through it and wallkick up the vertical section of it, until he emerges on the other side of the tunnel. Longjump between the platforms until Mario reaches the one with a ! box in the centre.
This ! box contains the Star, but isn't over any ground for Mario to stand on. Jump down into the gap between the box and the platform and, when Mario is next to the box, perform a groundpound. The groundpound will make the box burst open, and play the Star-appearing cutscene, during which Mario will be frozen in place. After the cutscene, Mario should be in range of the Star, and instantly collect it.
Act 2: So Nah' Und Doch So Fern[]
Approximate translation: So Near And Yet So Far. Head along the other pathway leading away from Mario's starting pointing, which leads to a series of small islands along the left side of the pool's cavern. From here, the Star should be visible dead ahead. Jump down into the water in front of the Star and head into the secret passageway between the rocks nearby (see image).
Swim down the tunnel in the secret passageway and keep going until Mario arrives at a room filled with lava. Longjump at a slight angle towards one of the walls and begin wallkicking along above the lava. As the walls are fairly far apart, it may be necessary to perform at least one firstie (clicking A to wallkick on the first possible frame) to maintain Mario's momentum. Once he's reached the other side, try to land on the platform with the Star with two or less lava bounces- three lava bounces will kill Mario.
Act 3: Der Astral-Turm[]
Use the cannon to reach the upper section of the course by aiming for the stony part of the hill to the right of the course. Once up there, climb the stone tower in the distance. This is arguably the most challenging Star in this hack, and savestates are recommended for some of the jumps and wallkicking sections.
Act 4: Das Versunkene Schiff[]
Use the cannon to reach the upper section of the course. Once up there, enter the warp pipe near the back of the course. This will warp Mario to inside the ship.
Once inside the ship, defeat all of the Boo's around to summon the Big Boo, who spawns at the lowest part of the area. once defeated, the Star will spawn at the highest point of the area. The slope here isn't as slippery as it is in vanilla SM64, so there's less manic sliding around.
Act 5: Das Geheimnis Der Grotte[]
Head to the main pool and swim down to the underwater triangle at the bottom. Go to the middle of it and swim through/sink through it, into the hidden space below containing the Star.
Act 6: Rote Muenzen Auf Der Grotte[]
Four of the red coins are located on the rocks embedded in lava on the upper section of the course. If it is an option, recommend using savestates for these rocks, as there are some very unpleasant invisible walls. Another red coin is in the air behind the tower; perform a sideflip against the nearby wall and wallkick off of it to reach the coin.
The next red coin unfortunately requires Mario to climb all the way to the top of the tower, as it is floating in the air above the first wallkicking section. It is too hight up to reach from on top of the wallkicking section, which has a coin ring on it, so Mario must fall down onto the coin from the top of the tower. This fall would be another good time to use savestates, because a failed attempt to grab the red coin would mean climbing the whole tower again from the bottom.
The last two red coins are in the air around the edge of the upper section of the course. One of them is easily seen when aiming the cannon to land Mario on the upper section, and can be reached by jumping over to it from the cliff edge. The other is nearer the centre of the open airspace, and is best reached by bouncing off of the nearby Fly Guy.
The red coin Star spawns in some underwater ruins, near the two Chuckya's,
100 Coin Star[]
Don't attempt the 100 coin Star on the first Act. Start by collecting the coin ring around Mario's starting point.
Two Chuckya's can be seen on the path to the first Star in this hack. The blue coin switch can be found near the Bob-omb Buddy who opens the cannon, hidden inside a crate. The blue coins are a tad challenging, and some require swimming underwater.
On the upper section of the course, three Giant Goomba's can be found behind the tower, granting 15 total coins if defeated with groundpounds. In the corner of the map opposite to the red coins over lava rocks, there's a stone monument. This has vertical coin lines in each corner and a coin ring in the centre, totalling up to 28 coins.
