SM64 Royal Legacy Definitive Edition

SM64 Royal Legacy Definitive Edition is a ROM hack created by aglab2, Nobbie and StunningCactus. This hack is a remaster of its predecessor, SM64 Royal Legacy, which in turn was inspired by SM64 Sapphire.

For fans of SM64 Sapphire: a new 30-star adventure awaits you. This is a very traditional platformer hack meant to challenge players who have already mastered everything vanilla SM64 asks of you. 4 original worlds, complete with a hub, Bowser stage and fight. The entire soundtrack is original music composed just for this game.

Gameplay Changes[]

This hack contains no fall damage, and has disabled the lives counter. Falling into a death barrier will instead take away four points of health and deliver Mario back to the last ledge he was on.

The Four Gems[]

After defeating Bowser and letting the credits roll, the player can reset the ROM to activate the new changes. This will summon four gems for Mario to collect, which will open the mysterious door in Tartaruga Castle, between the doors to courses three and four. Once obtained, Mario will be able to enter the door and access the secret course, Behind the Gem Door, which contains the final Star of the hack. It features a series of mini challenges and puzzles to overcome all stringed together, for an enjoyable and unique adventure.

Each of the four main courses have one crown gem each. The gems can only be found while playing on Act 6 (citation needed).

C1: Green Crown Gem: inside of Unagi's cave. Swim up to him and swim away again (like in vanilla SM64's first Star for Jolly Roger Bay), and Unagi will have vanished. Enter his cave and grab the Star there.
C2: Blue Crown Gem: on the tip of the big snowman's nose.
C3: Red Crown Gem: in a wall recess accessible via Koopa Shell over lava.
C4: Pink Crown Gem: immediately visible upon entering the level. Bounce off of the nearby Fly Guy to reach it.
