Sonic the Hedgehog: The Glittering Stars is a mini ROM Hack made by Fares242.
In this game, the player takes the role of Sonic venturing on a quest to save a mysterious planet from evil foes with the help of the Glittering Stars. Sonic acts and shares the same controls as Mario's, but doesn't acquire his signature abilities such as the Spin Dash or the Spin Attack. There are only 8 Stars spread out in different areas which makes the game less difficult, but focuses more on exploring than platforming.
It is the only hack that Fares has created without involving Mario, although items, enemies and bosses are retextured to look like assets from a Sonic game. This was recently updated by LinCrash with a couple changes and came out with an green star extension, called The Blue Stars, with a total of 12 Stars.
