Speed Star Adventure is a minor ROM hack created by jesusyoshi54. It's the sixth installment of the "Star Adventure" meme hack series. It features 15 courses and 30 Stars including a Bowser fight.
This hack follows the All Star Adventure canon as Dorrie and co. also returns to help Mario in his adventure. The courses consist of 7 theme lands along with 7 land alterations named Futures. In addition, each course has new custom items to add extra playability through gameplay as the game will share information in how to use them.
This hack also features a new concept of interactivity known as the SM64 Text Engine, which plays in situations by talking to NPCs and displays scrolling text and newer visuals.
As much as this game is serious with the story, it has its fair share of memes that Mario can interact with colorful Dorries in the main hub; though they give out useful advices, they will tend to bring up absurdly trivial references to the Super Mario 64 community: namesake to ROM hacks, fanbases, members, etc.
Courses[]
Each land solely holds 2 Stars: one is collecting red coins (or Dorrie gems) and another as an obstacle course. Items and objects will also change locations depending of the act mission.
Course | Stars | Description |
---|---|---|
Water Land | 2 | Kicking while in mid-air will toggle on/off the blocks' solidity. |
Grass Land | 2 | Mario will be launched up when stepping on a launch pad by pressing the A button. |
Snow Land | 2 | Pressing the A button will toggle on/off the blocks' solidity. |
Sand Land | 2 | Hitting a green crystal will switch blocks to move either up/down or left/right. |
Fire Land | 2 | By flicking the control stick, Mario will be thrown off a stationary Slingshot. |
Space Land | 2 | Diamond-shaped blocks will flip back and forth when Mario jumps. Mario can't step on inverted blocks as they cause him to slide off. |
Flower Land | 2 | Floating Balloons will give Mario an extra bounce when he jumps onto them. |
Water Future | 2 | Mario will be blasted off from Charge Cannons by holding the A button at a certain range. |
Grass Future | 2 | Grabbing onto a Propeller Lift will carry Mario until he's launched at a direction upon release. |
Snow Future | 2 | Entering an Air Bubble will cause Mario to run and jump as if he was on land. He will swim back underwater when leaving one. |
Sand Future | 2 | Jumping onto a Mirror Ring will fling Mario up high. It will do so by converting his speed and multiplies it into a superjump. |
Fire Future | 2 | Spinning Flowers will stop moving when Mario steps on a leaf. |
Space Future | 2 | Picking up and throwing a cork box at a surface will deploy it into a enlarged platform. Ground pounding the switch will revert it back to its original state. |
Flower Future | 2 | Lightning Platforms glow and follow Mario's direction when he steps on them. Ground pounding the platforms will reset them back to their position. |
