Splitslide is a ROM hack created by Defacube for the SimpleFlips' Slide Hack Competition (2024) ft. PirateSoftware, in which it placed 94th.
Made for the Simpleflips 2024 Slide Competition This hack contains a slide that leads to either a green warp pipe, a red pipe, or a mysterious star. What will you pick?
Gameplay[]
This hack contains two levels, both occupying overworld area IDs. Collecting any of the Stars in this hack will warp Mario back to the start of the first area, and will not give the player the option to save their progress.
The first area contains the "splitslide" that this hack's title is referring to. After a short slide down to a platform with trees and a fake Star above it, the rest of this area is revealed, placing Mario inside of a tunnel with a coin retextured to resemble a green Star. After that, Mario exits to the top of the splitslide.
The right path, which is blue, has a vertical tunnel at the end, in which a gust of wind will carry Mario upwards. At the top of this vertical tunnel is a short water slide, which ends with a Star.
The middle path has another fake Star at the end, which will warp Mario to a sub-area where it is revealed that the player has discovered "nothing". Keep in mind that following this path may reset the player's Star count to zero.
The left path, which is green, leads to a warp pipe, which sends Mario to the second level. This second level is a copy of Princess's Secret Slide from vanilla SM64, albiet with a strong green hue over all of its textures. There are two Stars to collect in this level; the first requires the player to collect all eight red coins as they head down the slide, and the second is waiting at the bottom of the slide.
Behind the second Star in the green path's level is a door requiring 3 Stars to open. Behind it is a room advertising space for commercial advertisements, and a sign explaining that the player has reached the end of the hack.
