Super Baby Mario is a ROM hack created by Shroompai for the SimpleFlips' Slide Hack Competition (2024) ft. PirateSoftware, in which it placed 54th.
Overview[]
This hack contains one course, and a small hub area leading to it. In-game, the course is occupying the course 6 area ID and has retained vanilla SM64's titles, but Star Display calls this course Crayon World. This hack is intended to only have one Star to collect, but an unintentional 100 coin Star can also be obtained, and is the reason why this hack shows two Stars on RHDC.
In the hub world, which resembles a classroom, the player can talk to a Bob-omb Buddy standing under the table. The Buddy explains that they're trying to finish their drawing but have lost the yellow crayon they need to finish it; they request Mario's help in finding it as the teacher is nowhere to be found. A sign on the door of the classroom contains the credits from the hack author, and a brief explanation of the hack.
To enter the course, the player needs to jump into the Bob-omb Buddy's drawing that is on the table. Once inside, Mario starts at the top of a slide which has two pathways that overlap one another multiple times. Both pathways lead to he same ending, however, where a Star retextured to. appear as a yellow crayon can be obtained.
After obtaining the Star, the player is warped straight to the endscreen, meaning that the player's Star progress cannot be saved.
This hack's second Star is an unintentional 100 coin Star. This is made possible by the player's coin count being retained after dying in the level, meaning that the can keep redoing the slide as many times as needed to reach 100 coins. Although the player keeps their coins, the rest of the level is reset, so the same coins can be collected over and over.
