SM64 The Black Virus is an kaizo ROM hack created by NormalX71. It is intended to be a sequel for one of the creator's previous hacks,Super Mario 76 Nightmare Edition. There are a total of 134 Power Stars to collect.
The first part to this hack is called Main Black Virus Zone, and is (arguably) the easiest gameplay in the hack. The exceptions to this are the course Color-Blind Age and the Bowser 1 Course, which both have a noticeably higher difficulty than the rest of the levels. The other part of this hack is titled the Black Inferno Zone, and it has the hardest Stars in the hack. The levels here frequently require the player to execute a variety of difficult tricks, including Quicksand Ledgegrabs (QSLG), and Firsties (Frame Wallkicks).
The creator of this hack, NormalX71, prefers to use his own method of rating difficulty:
- 1 - 3: Easy
- 4 - 6: Medium
- 7 - 9: Hard
- 10 - 13: EXTREME
- 14+: GOD
