Super Mario Kindergarten is an old ROM hack created by Crashdance22 based on his Machinima series of the same name back in 2007.
The hack and series since remained on the creator's Youtube Channel until on December 31, 2019, he officially deleted it in response to the COPPA situation going on at that time, but not before backing up his videos to MEGA. However, download links were terminated and the hack, alongside other series and projects, ended up being archived by fans and viewers.
For preservation purposes, BattierPrince52 was able to publish the ROM on its original condition, including a version to play as Luigi and a New Game/Post-Game edition that follow the scripted scenes of the series. Regarding the effort, he simply quoted:
"Aside from creating a version with Luigi and the various fixes to the hack, I don't take credit for anything else. I know this hack is somewhat crusty and it is definitely a product of it's time, but it holds a special place in my heart and I simply wouldn't want this hack to become lost media."
Overview[]
The hack is a vanilla edit of Super Mario 64. Since it is based on the series, the gameplay and level geometry are as similar as the regular game, except the graphics and text are heavily modified. It only contains 3 modified levels including the main hub and the final battle. There are particularly a few altered missions but they are very brief and simple. Also, a Gameshark code was provided to swap Mario's color palette to his classic NES skin.
