Super Mario: The Crystal Stars is a major ROM hack made by Fares242. It was released on October 2020 with over 15 levels and 100 Stars.
It features: "no 100 coins, no fall damage, balanced difficulty with some spikes, Perfect completion... That is you need to collect every last Star to face off with Bowser in the final showdown.''
As of early 2024, the hack was unoffically updated by LinCrash, featuring new QoL tweaks and improvements: adding up new music tracks, fixed warps, shortcuts, etc. Plus, a green star extension was released as the same time as the update, called The Green Crystal Stars, with a total of 70 stars.
Plot[]
''Far from the Mushroom Kingdom, there exists power entities called the Crystal Stars. They gather in the 'Chamber Of Stars'.
Bowser enters the chamber to steal them. Toadulus, guardian of the Crystal Stars spreads them across the vast lands to keep them out of Bowser's reach.
Bowser furiously locks Toadulus up in his castle in an ant-magic sealed room. Bowser then orders his troops to go to the locations of the Crystal Stars and guard them there, claiming the lands as his own.
It's up to Mario to collect the Crystal Stars and defeat Bowser once again!''
