Throwback Galaxy 64 is a collaborative hack made by devwizard and salozard for the SimpleFlips' Troll Hack Competition (2023), in which it placed 4th.
This hack gets its namesake from a level originating from Super Mario Galaxy 2 called Throwback Galaxy. Contrary to what the name suggests, the levels Mario must play through bear little resemblance to Throwback Galaxy, nor its inspiration, Whomp's Fortress. It also does not bear any real similarities to what its cover image on romhacking.com suggests it will be like, which remembles a modernised version of Bob-omb Battlefield.
It does, however, contain replicas of other games. Upon Starting a new file, the player will be asked to draw an image using their mouse on an interface that is very similar to MarioPaint. In the game's main course, the creator has ported in one of the most widely disliked levels of any Super Mario game- Super Mario Sunshine's Pachinko Game. Also present is a playable replica of the original Super Mario Bros. game, with only some minor changes made.
