Hello to the few active editors here! I've been doing a lot of tidying up on this wiki and I figured I should share these changes so people don't end up re-adding the now defunct categories.
Hack-specific Categories[]
We will not use location categories specific to hacks anymore. So instead of using the category called "Super Mario 74 Locations" we would use the categories "Super Mario 74" and "Location". The reason for this is that there was so many hack-specific categories that it was kind of a nightmare to sort through articles properly. Likewise, we will be doing the same with "[Hack name] Enemies", "[Hack name] Characters", "[Hack name] Bosses", "[Hack name] Levels" and so on. I'll be writing another blog post on this soon as there's a very easy fix we can do to sort out these articles.
Category:[Hack name][]
Hack names as categories: Please only add the hack name as a category to the hack's article if there's going to be a significant amount of pages created in relation to that hack. A stand-alone hack with one or two levels doesn't need its own tag. The main page for a hack should contain a table/list of some kind for the hack's areas and levels- put the links to the other pages in these lists.
New Categories[]
● "Hack Series" is to be used for hacks that belong to a series, articles covering a hack series, and gallery articles for either of those. Please don't add location articles to this category or it'll gum up the category.
● "Secret Courses" is replacing "Secret Levels" to match the terminology used in vanilla SM64.
● "Retextures" is a new category, it's for... retextures. Who woulda thunk? This category is to be used for hacks that are retextures of vanilla SM64 or an already-existing hack (for example, Play as Koopa Troopa in Super Mario 64 or Super Luigi Star Road).
● "Hack logos" is a new category for uploaded images; for those title screens that display the title of the hack, usually when Mario says "Itsa me, Mario" while booting up the game.
Other Changes[]
● The categories "Males" and "Females" are being retired. ✶see below for explanation
● The "Villains" category is being retired. We already have the "Enemies" category, use that one instead as it makes more sense in the context of SM64.
● The categories "Kings", "Music-Super Mario 64", [addmore] are being retired too.
● The category "HUB" is being retired and replaced with "Hub Worlds".
● "Vanilla Hack" is being retired cuz... isn't that nearly all hacks?
● "Music-Super Mario" is being phased out cuz that's not nearly specific enough. There are 22 games in the main Super Mario alone, a further 32 related games to Super Mario, and don't even get me started on the w:c:mariowiki:List of games list.
● "Super Mario Twisted Adventures" has been replaced with "SM64: Twisted Adventures" to match its title on romhacking.com.
✶I'm currently in the process of removing the categories for "Male" and "Female". The reasoning behind this- there's a lot of trans people in the SM64 ROM hacking community and it's sorta just easier to stick with using the "Pronouns" option on the Hack creator box info than it is to change the categories, which requires minimal knowledge of the source editor. Also, using these tags for NPCs looks ridiculous cuz most SM64 NPCs are basically objects with eyes, and I don't know about you guys, but seeing the "Male" tag for freakin' Eyerok had me in stitches. That's a set o' hands made of old musty bricks. How are we gonna assign a sex to that??
If you bothered to read any of this, thank you! Much appreciated :) feel free to contact me via my message wall or any of the comments sections for my blog posts if you have any queries, questions, concerns or ideas.
I hope this is gonna be recieved well- it's been awhile since I last moderated any community, I apologise if I have come off as unpleasant in any way.
