Hallo! A very warm welcome to all three individuals who clicked on this post :D Here's a TLDR of the most important points:
- Please have a look at these images, and let me know if you recognise what they're from. They're the only ones left in the unused files pile, and I'm debating on deleting them if we can't find a use for them.
- Generic file names are now disallowed- including names such as IMG_001, Image(2), Screenshot 0/0/0 00:00. Any files uploaded must have a unique name with some indicator of which hack it belongs to/use.
- We now have a new licensing option available for files downloaded directly from romhacking.com.
- SM64DS content has been either deleted or archived, and archived articles now have a link at the top to the actual SM64DS hacks wiki.
Alright, here's the full update (AKA the Cooler Version):
Hack Categories[]
As per a suggestion from one of our regular editors, the categories of hacks have been separated from the actual Hacks category. A very solid suggestion that has fixed the "Random Hack" button on the hotbar- thanks Ridin9!
Files[]
I've been going through every single file on this wiki, and whoooo boy, here's a quick summary:
- All 3,392 files on this wiki have now been categorised! I can't lie, I'm pretty proud of that one. Took ages, and I may have lost a negligible amount of sanity, but who caresIf you have the brain cells to spare on categorising any files you upload, the only ones you'll likely need to use are:
- "Screenshots" for... screenshots. Specifically, screenshots that you yourself took, not an image from elsewhere that appears to be a screenshot. You are still allowed to crop out the sidebars on screenshots.
- "Edited screenshots" for screenshots that have undergone some other process, including cropping out any of the hack's view/cropping beyond the sideb
- "Hack logos" for hack logos.
- There are other sub categories for images if you're interested, and you can find info on what each sub cat actually is or means on its page.
- Of course, I don't expect anyone to go through the effort of categorising everything they upload. I've done nearly 3,400 of them and I still occassionally forget to do so when uploading, but I figured there was no harm in leaving an explanation here anyway. Any uncategorised files will automatically appear in the allocated special page, which is updated once per day. I'll be checking it regularly and categorising anything left in there, so no sweat if you cba to categorise. If you're unsure what category is appropriate, no sweat, just leave it as is and I'll get around to it.
- Nearly all unused files have now been added to their relevant articles, or deleted (there was a lot of duplicate pics for Star Revenge logos). There are a few stragglers that I don't know what to do with- including a hack logo for Portal 64, which I can't quite be sure of which hack that belongs to, and a... Goomba Position?? Any input on what to do with these remaining pics is greatly appreciated.
- FILE NAMES
- This one's important. All files uploaded to this wiki must not have a generic name. No more "IMG-001", or "Screenshot date-time". It makes it a nightmare to organise the files, know which one belongs where, etc. Please include the name of the hack/acronym for that hack, at the least. If you're unsure how to name your files in an organisable way, here's the system I personally use:
[Hack name/acronym]-[location ID]-[number]
So using that, we get:
SM64: Beyond the Cursed Mirror, screenshot from course 1 🡪🡪🡪 BTCM-c1-1
If it's a small-enough hack that there's not much need to divide up files by location, we can do:
A Snowy Evening, 4th screenshot 🡪🡪🡪 ASnowyEvening-4
But these are just examples, you don't need to follow this formula.
- I would encourage only using acronyms for hacks have long names (maybe four or more words), otherwise we're gonna run out of acronyms very quickly.
- Files that are hack logos should contain the name or acronym of the hack to some effect.
- If you accidentaly upload a file with an incorrect name, generic file name or whatever, please either:
- Mark it for deletion, and reupload it under the correct name.
- Move the file page to a new name, if you're comfortable doing so.
- If you need help, advice, clarification on any of this, my message wall is always open. I'll never be a bastard about it, even for the very simple questions. I know there are still some files floating around with generic names, I'll get around to those after I've gotten my sanity refurbished.
- File Licensing:
- A new licensing option has been added. When uploading a file to this wiki, you can now select the option to state that the image was sourced directly from romhacking.com. This'll help in knowing if it's an official logo for a hack/screenshot from in-game, or whose screenshot it actually is, etc. Please only use it for files downloaded directly from romhacking.com that haven't been altered in any way EXCEPT for the name of the file, obviously we can't be having 20 pics called GLiDeN64-bunchofgibberishandnumbers floating around.
SM64 DS Content[]
Originally, the plan was to purge this wiki of SM64DS hack content, but there's so many old links to those articles in old threads, that doing so would leave a ton of dead page links floating around, clogging up the special pages for wanted pages and files. Instead, some of those pages have been undeleted and have instead been archived. The dedicated SM64DS hacks wiki is linked in each one, but if you stumble across any articles I've missed, do let me know.
Upcoming Wiki Plans[]

As always, ideas and feedback are very welcome (craved, even). Here's what I've got so far.
- Finish creating a hack page for every SM64 hack published on romhacking.com. This one is a mammoth task, and is definitely a long term goal. This doesn't apply to retextures though, as those are usually just visual changes and don't have enough changes to warrant having their own article.
- Update Kaze's page to include all of his SM64 hacks created. This is a pretty big one, since he's published so goddamn many of them, but it needs to be done at some point before we can call it a proper wiki page on him.
- Update the home page to have hack recommendations at the top, and nice big boxes advertising pages for newbies to ROM hacking. You guys don't need to worry about this one, since editing the main page is an admin-only thing, but suggestions for it are always welcome. We seem to be in kind of a golden era for SM64 hacks, and as such, have a ton of amazing hacks, and I'm always down to give something a spot on the main page.
For those of you that bothered to read this far- thank you for your time! Every edit on this wiki is appreciated, no matter how small.
Yours truly, Princess Toad- uh... ElectricYV.
