SM64 Ztar Attack Rebooted is a rom hack made by TheGael95 and aglab2. It is a remake of Super Mario 64 1.5 Ztar Attack!.
Plot[]
The plot remains the same, except for the ending which is more vague and more open-ended than the original's, since there is no "final Star" that brings you back to the title screen.

Rebooted's Course 15[]
In ZA Rebooted, Course 15 went through a lot of changes regarding its features and purpose:
- The stage's name was changed from Forbidden Universe to the longer Negative Realm: Forbidden Universe.
- Pretty much every mission is different from the original, name-wise and task-wise, the only exception being Ztar 1, ★ The Path Of Emptiness, which keeps the name and whose task is essentially the same, that is, a platforming mission.
- Only 4 ztars can be collected in the actual main stage, these being the first three named missions and the 100-coin ztar. Ztar 4 is collected in a different part of the stage once the player has collected the 169 other ones, and Ztar 5 and 6 are respectively ★ Normal Ending's and ★ Negative Ending's rewards, Course 15 merely hosting these two to reach SM64's typical 7-Star total.
The Negative Ending[]
Game Over
Thank you for playing
To be continued in ZA3
Trivia[]
- If the player manages to die in Castle Grounds while everything is colorless, Mario will respawn in the water-filled part of the moat and get killed instantly, only to be respawned at this exact same location and die again immediatly, resulting in a never-ending cycle of deaths and respawns and softlocking the game.
- The original ZA's ending music is used for ★ Ztar's Dream -169★-'s area.
1-UPs[]
In Ztar Attack Rebooted, Mario is granted infinite lives — they are not even shown on the HUD — but some fake 1-UP mushrooms are hidden in the levels. Upon collecting them, a message is displayed on screen, sometimes trolling the player.
WARNING! The following list may probably not be comprehensive.
Level name | Location | Message |
---|---|---|
Ztar Meadows | On a grassy hill | You found a secret |
Desolate Desert | On the highest platform inside of the house (cold version, close to where the elevator would be in the hot equivalent) | No way it is possible |
Mansion in the Woods | On a big branch, right side on the mansion upon exiting it from the top | Sharp eyes are good |
Drowned Village | High on a vine platform near the Course 4 warp (requires raising the water level) | Breaking course fail |
Creezie Mountain | On the highest mushroom (seemingly requires cheats) | Wind is so dumb |
Chillheat Temple | At the very end of the lavafall (hot side) | Noteblocks are fun |
Aquatic Pit | On the ship atop the highest mast | Pirate ship from Ma |
Piranha Swamp | In an alcove located on the outer side of the big tree's trunk, dangerously close to the bottom of the swamp. It can be reached by jumping from the left side of the last wooden platform before the tree ztar | Idiot |
Daredevil Heights | In the secret slide section of this course (Ztar 6, The Lava-Inonded Slides ☆C10), above the lava cupola. Requires extremely precise lavaboosting from the right side of the structure | AHAHAHAHAHAAHAAHAHAHA |
Desertic Industries | Above Ztar 6 | Literally handling god |
The Daylight Sanctuary | Behind the Boss entrance turret | Who needs assist |
The Daylight Sanctuary | At the end of the right path during the Bowser battle | I wish it was easy |
Bowser's Aerial Castle | In a big wooden crate | Explorer in blood |
Fireball Fright | On a bluish hill | Secrets are free lol |
Overworld | In Mario's house's bathroom (requires BLJ/cheats) | Still looking after her |
Diedol Factory | Inside the ★ Gates, Diedol And Parcour maze, high above the one corner of the room where two sinking platforms can be found | I wanna see |
Some of the original Overworld 1-UPs are still present, such as the four-secret one in the basement. Some signs are still working even though they are invisible, such as the one near the pillars.
Trivia[]
- In the Daylight Sanctuary, there is a secret sign located on the platform where a switch is on the nighttime version of the stage. This sign is very unlikely to be accessible by legitimate means. The text is: "teach me how to fly".
- In the Normal Ending hub, there is a sign "hidden" behind the 2nd floor door atop the stairs. The text is: "Who even needs that stupid LBLJ if you can just do it on stairs? xd". Indeed this sign can be reached by performing a well-timed and precisely-aimed BLJ on said stairs.
- If upon collecting the Grand Star after defeating Final Bowser Mario manages to cancel/skip the fade-to-black effect and the warp to Normal Ending hub, the victory cutscene will play as in the original. However, there is a risk that in that cutscene Mario dies upon landing in Castle Grounds and respawns in regular Castle Grounds. If Mario lands correctly, the cutscene will go on, and the credits will ensue, but with strange camera angles on courses, as it was very likely not supposed to be seen. The credits will display views of Course 1 through 6 and Course 13's Ztar 6 area, then the screen will turn black, and the credits music will loop, somewhat softlocking the game.
